Norwegian-based operator group Telenor has submitted a request for the Indian government to bring the auction of 2G spectrum – necessitated by the cancellation of 122 licences in February – forwards to June, reports Dow Jones Newswires. The company wants to end the uncertainty created when the Supreme Court revoked licences issued in 2008 after they were deemed to have been awarded in less-than-competitive circumstances. The Indian government has said the auction will take at least 400 days from the date of the cancellation despite the revoked licences expiring on 2 June. Telenor’s partner in its Uninor operator joint venture, Unitech, is now reported to be open to selling its 32.7 percent stake. A major stumbling block is understood to be the two companies’ significantly different valuations of the stake.
